Stone
cladding instructions with
natural stone panels: |
On this
page I will outline the necessary
steps needed for installing natural
stone panels on any wall. Stone
paneling is a relatively easy task.
However, there are a few basic but
important things to keep in mind
during the installation.
The very
first step is to know your square
footage of the area you wish to
cover with natural stone panels.
Measure the length and the height of
your wall and multiply it. Add an
extra ten percent for breakage and
cuts.
Before you
start installing your stone panels
you have to determine the type of
material your wall was built off. If
your wall is a solid masonry wall
you can begin the installations with
a simple application of a blue
bonding agent on the wall surface.
You will only need a clean,
dust and oil free wall to begin
with.
However, if your wall is made of dry
wall or if it is a wooden structure
you have to reinforce it and provide
adequate surface bonding for your
stone panels.
|
Wire lath installation:
Begin at the right hand bottom
corner of the wall.
Leave the paper backing overlapping
1-1/2” on the sides and the top. The
sheets should always be installed
horizontal, perpendicular to the
framing.
Fasten the wire lath with 1” screws.
After installation apply a
scratch-coat of mortar.
|
 |
After the scratch coat mortar dried
you can begin the installation of
the stone panels.
If you
have a drywall surface you have to
install 1/8th of
an inch cement backer boards and
fasten it to the studs with dry wall
screws. Shown on picture.
|
 |
Begin the installation.
The first step is to remove
any baseboards from your
wall where the stone panels
are going to be installed
on.
After this step it is
advisable to check on the
level of the floor. This
will prevent future problems
during the installation.
Start with one stone panel
at the highest point of your
floor. You can use paper or
plastic spacers to get the
next stones on the right
elevation. |
These
spacers can be removed later. After
installing one or two stone panels
put your level on the top of your
stones and mark a level line all
through the wall from end to end.
This will be your level guideline
for positioning your next stone
panel. For the installation
we use thin-set mortar and S-type
mortar mixed in 50% ratio. Mix your
mortar to a peanut butter
consistency. We usually add a splash
of white bonding agent additive to
the mixture for better overall
performance.
 |
Lightly butter the back of
your stone tile and place it
on the wall. These natural
stone panels are step cut so
each stone panel will
interlock with the adjacent
stone tile.
Keep in mind that these
natural stone panels are
installed dry-stacked
without any mortar between
the panels. If you have
mortar on the top of your
stone remove it before you
lay the next panel on the
top of it. |
|
Keep a string line or a
pencil line for your
guideline at least on every
second course. It will help
you with keeping your level
and guide you along the
installation.
Make cuts at corners,
electrical outlines and
other areas necessary. You
can use a grinder or a wet
saw for cutting your natural
stone panels.
Keep your stones clean. Wipe
excess mortar and saw dust
off the stone wall during
the installation. |

|
 |
If your wall has
windows you will
need to keep in
mind that the
corners need to
be covered with
corner pieces.
These are
calculated in
linear feet.
Measure the
length of your
corners and add
a few extras for
cutting.

wide selection of natural stone
panels
we can
transform your walls into artistic
masterpieces. With intricate
patterns and natural textures,

different spaces with
