You can create
a working fireplace using prefab
fire box in less time than you
think.
It is possible
to install heart, base, firebox, do
the framing and install the flue
line, erecting supporting chimney
and install any type of stone
surround with the installation of a
mantel in less than one week.
Factory-built
metal fire boxes are pre-assembled
and usually sold in fireplace stores
along with a compatible chimney or
flue and other accessories, such as
chimney cap, fire logs and glass
door for the firebox. These so
called zero-clearance fireboxes are
a great alternative to conventional
fireplaces.
The best part
about prefabricated metal fireboxes
is that it can be incorporated into
masonry fireplaces or simply frame
out the walls and it can accommodate
any mantel, surrounds, veneer,
stone, stucco, or other finishes,
making it look like a real
masonry
fireplace.
Prefabricated
fireboxes weigh much less than
masonry fireplaces, prefabs often
installed on second story without
any additional structural
reinforcement. Prefabricated metal
fireboxes usually require only one
inch clearance from the wooden
framing. Electric models can be
installed anywhere nearby a 120 volt
outlet.

Firebox. |
See electric firebox on the
right. Vent free gas burning prefab
fireboxes offer an added benefit. It
is possible to install any
vent free
firebox without a chimney
or a flue, cutting the installation
time and cost associated with
building a chimney to nearly half.
Keep in mind
that not all gas burning fireboxes
are vent-less. Gas fired prefabs can
be direct vent, B vent or vent free.
Vented prefabricated fireboxes
require a metal flue or chimney.
Vented fireplaces are sold as
complete systems that contain the
flue, cap, glass door and all parts
for an easy and effortless assembly.
Indoor
prefabricated metal fireboxes are
made of sheet metal
and usually painted black or
galvanized. The facing of the box
can be shown or veneered with any
stone or simply covered with a
multitude of fireplace surrounds.
Factory built outdoor fireboxes are
usually stainless steel for more
corrosion resistance.

available in 34", 36" and 42" sizes.
However, some manufacturers like
